Shannon Denise "Lil Cookie" McCrae

February 21, 1984 - February 1, 2022

Shannon Denise “Lil Cookie” McCrae, 37 of Zanesville, passed away, Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Genesis Hospital following a sudden illness. She was born Tuesday, February 21, 1984, to Sharon (McCrae) Young and the late Jessie J. Portis. She was a Christian by faith, and was an avid Dallas Cowboy and Alabama Crimson Tide (Roll Tide) fan. She was employed by 1-800-Flowers and most recently Columbia Gas. Shannon was a loving, caring, and generous person and was the life of the party. She was loved by all who knew her, and will be missed by all of her family and friends. She is survived by her mother, Sharon and step-father, Leroy (Larry) Young; one brother, James T. McCrae, Sr.; her niece; Kylee Samson; her nephew, her “Boo”, James T. McCrae, Jr.; best friend and cousin, Vanita McCrae, La’Tisha (Will) McCrae, her other sidekick, Kendra Garlin, Ken O. Gatlin, II, Keneesha Gatlin, her little cousins Tae, Shaune, Jae’Ceaune, Ka’Liyah, BrayLeonna, KaVayah, and Khy'Reeon; aunts, “Auntie” Lee Ann McCrae, Denice (Tyrone) Toney, and Dana Clopton; one uncle, Jamie Clopton; great aunt and uncle, Denice and Elder Terrance Brown; her beloved dog, King and extended family in Clayton and Dothan, Alabama and Akron, Ohio. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Walter McCrae, Bennie and Virsie (Fryer McCrae) Fountain. Friends may call 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, February 14, 2022, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at the funeral home with Elder Terrence Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
