Richard "Dick" D. Tabler

July 12, 1937 - April 24, 2022

Richard "Dick" D. Tabler, 84 of Columbus, formerly of Zanesville, died 4:09 PM, Sunday, April 24, 2022, at his home in Columbus. He was born Monday, July 12, 1937, in Athens County, the son of Lewis Tabler and Ruth (Jenkins) Tabler. He was married on Friday, May 30, 1958, to Mary Celestine (Tibbs) Tabler who survives. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass after many years of service. Following his retirement, he worked as a drug and alcohol counselor at the LAAP program in Newark, OH. Dick was a member of AA for 38 years. During his time with AA, he conducted meetings, and helped many people with their addiction though sponsorship and his loving friendship. Dick enjoyed working on cars and listening to jazz music. He was a self-taught musician, being able to play the drums and guitar. Most of all, he was a family man who valued education and helped all his children obtain post-secondary degrees. In addition to his wife he is survived by four children, Celestine Ward of Reynoldsburg, Martin (Lisa) Tabler of Delaware, Cynthia Price of Columbus, Regina (Jeffery) Hardin of Westerville, eight grandchildren, Charli’ Tabler, Joseph (Me'-Linh) Tabler, Jessica Tabler, Elizabeth (Grady) Bryant, Vanessa (Delmas) Miller, Whitney (Ryan Smith) Hardin, Britney Price and Bryceson Ward; eight great-grandchildren, Aiden Tabler, Aubrey Sweeney, Egypt Lunsford, Legend Woods, Naomi Miller, Delmas Miller, Jr, Ivannah Bryant and Mercy Smith; one sister, Joellen Mayle; one daughter-in-law, Gracelene Gibbs-Tabler and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two children Richard J. Tabler and Johnathan Tabler, and one granddaughter, Jennifer Woodson. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 28, 2022, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM, Friday, April 29, 2022, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 1020 East Main Street, Zanesville with Fr. Martin Ralko officiating.
