Michael Somple

Michael Somple, 100, of Zanesville, Ohio, died peacefully on February 16, 2022. He was born in Bovard, PA to the late Stephen and Catherine Duffalo Somple and was predeceased by his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Adeline, and brothers and sisters John Somple, Kathryn Surovy, Anne Smith, Joseph Somple, Stephen Somple, Helen Ribovich, Olga Watson, Erma Kropilak, and Roger Somple. Mr. Somple served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, enlisting immediately after Pearl Harbor, serving until Japan surrendered, and retiring from service while stationed in Guam. He then attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Mike continued his commercial art career and retired from his own company, Somple & Toomey Advertising Art, in Greensburg, PA. Mr. Somple is survived by his children Dr. Michael Somple (Ann) of Zanesville, OH, Patricia Curry (Edward) of Aurora, CO, Renee Abelson (Martin) of Mechanicsburg, PA, Jeffrey Somple of Harrisonburg, VA, and Mary Leidy (Jeffrey) of Virginia Beach, VA; sister Barbara Trettel of Plymouth, MN; nine grandchildren, eight great grandsons, and many nieces and nephews. Private entombment will be in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Greensburg, PA. Due to Covid restrictions, a Memorial Mass will be held at a later date in Mechanicsburg, PA.
