Gary Lee Dodge

November 19, 1944 - October 23, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Gary Lee Dodge says goodbye due to his unexpected death on October 24, 2018. Gary was born on November 19, 1944 in Gallipolis Ohio to the late Carl and Myrtle Dodge and is preceded in death by his sister Merle. Gary will be sadly missed by the loves of his life, daughter Ann Gillies and grandson Kyle Gillies. He is also survived by his niece Robin Art and her husband Travis and their children Casey, Kayla, and Cody, and his nephew Scott Laverack and his wife Debbie and his brother Davis Dodge. He will be missed by this world of many friends too numerous to name as he knew no strangers and special longtime friend Earl Taylor and his family. Gary was raised in Columbus, Ohio’s South End and he graduated from South High School, Class of 1964. He remained in touch with former classmates thru his participation on many softball teams, golf leagues and being active in the alumni association. Gary retired from OSU’s Department of Material Science and Engineering with over 40 years of service. After retiring, he maintained his friendships by golfing on several of the employee teams and attending monthly lunches. After retiring, he moved to Thornville Ohio to enjoy life on Buckeye Lake. As was his way he quickly made friends by joining the Moose lodge where he met new golf buddies and was introduced to the game of pickleball. To be a friend of Gary’s meant that there was always someone there to help you, to laugh with you, or to comfort you. He will be missed by so many people who loved and cared for him. In lieu of flowers the family would like anyone to make a donation to the charity of your choice.
