Barbara Ellen (Carpenter) Batross Leslie, born April 10, 1932 in Zanesville, Ohio died September 26, 2016. Ellen went to heaven to be with our Lord after her courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents Joy (Joseph) Ross Carpenter and Nora Mildred Carter Carpenter Stubbs Brouillette; husbands Robert Anthony Batross and Robert Alexander Leslie; and step-daughter Linda Jane Leslie Dow. Ellen is survived by her half sister Paula Stubbs Sandoval and half brother Robert Carpenter; her four daughters, Gaye Marie Batross (Michael) Keck of Canton, OH, Lynn Ellen Batross Bishop, of Zanesville, OH, Ann Elizabeth Batross (Jeff) Pfau of Lewis Center, OH, Martha Jane Batross (Kevin) Schneider, of Raleigh, NC and step-daughter Karen Leslie, of San Francisco, CA; 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Her extended family includes the Jones family cousins and their children. Ellen’s career extended across WHIZ-TV as a continuity writer and on-camera commercial personality; part-time Cheeser’s Palace employee and in 1980, became a Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch until she retired in 1992. She spent many years raising her children, participating in PTA, Hoofbeats 4-H, fundraisers, committees and managing Albatross Arabian Acres. Ellen was an active member for many years with Beaux Arts and Zaney Follies. Ellen served on the Southern Ohio Synod of the ELCA and various committees at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Zanesville. She also was instrumental in the fundraising for Zanesville Museum of Art and a Board Member of Genesis Health System. As a part-year resident of Cape Coral, Florida, Ellen became passionate about ArtFest Fort Myers where she was a part of the Steering Committee, Volunteer Coordinator, Event Assistant to the Director and Office Assistant. She also was very active in the Cape Coral Art League as a member and Board Member. She was an avid reader, gardener and loved painting in watercolor. Ellen to many, Barb to family members, she was a strong, faithful and loving lady who touched the lives of many. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, September 30, at Saint John’s Lutheran Church, 116 North Seventh Street, Zanesville with Rev. Mark Combs officiating. Private burial will take place in Mount Olive Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dr. Nick A. & Nancy R.
