Ann L. Baker

March 7, 1924 - July 21, 2021

Ann L. Baker, age 97 of Zanesville, died 9:36 PM, Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice in Zanesville. She was born Friday, March 7, 1924 in Columbus, the daughter of Walter Joseph Carlisle, Sr. and Thelma Magdalene (Becker) Carlisle. She was married on Saturday, May 15, 1948 to Herbert W. Baker, Sr. who preceded her in death on Friday, October 7, 1977. She was an active member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and in her earlier years was active with the Falls Township Fire Maids. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Columbus in 1942, and briefly attended Ohio State University. She worked as a telephone operator supervisor for Bell Telephone Company in Columbus and Zanesville. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend and fed everyone who came to her house. Ann was an avid card player and never turned down a chance to play cards. Ann is survived by her six children: Herbert W. Baker, Jr. of Zanesville, Beatrice Ann (Brian) Hicks of Zanesville, Blaise G. (Peggy) Baker of Columbus, Carl T. (Lezlee) Baker of Zanesville, Elaine L. (Robert) Hartman of Canal Winchester, and Sharon (Vincent) Wollenburg of Newark; eleven grandchildren: Tasha Baker, Sean Hicks, Mallory (Clint) Hughes, Caleb (Kate) Baker, Nicholas ( Heather) Baker, Alex (Tessa Riley) Baker, Elizabeth Hartman, Catherine (Nick Bartlett) Hartman, Robert Hartman, Caroline and Billy Wollenburg; three great grandchildren: Hannah and Eva Hughes and Allis Baker, one sister-in-law: JoAnn Carlisle of Etna; longtime friend and former care taker: Debbie Snack, and many nieces and nephews. Ann also served as “honorary grandma” to two sisters, Brandee Marple Trout and Jamie Marple Lipp. In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Ashley Hoffman, Jacob Baker and John Lent, Jr. and two brothers, Walter Carlisle, II and wife Mary Jo and William Carlisle. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Clay Gardens and the Genesis Morrison House Hospice for the loving care they provided for Ann. Friends may call from 2 to 4PM & 6 to 8PM on Monday, July 26, 2021 at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where a Rosary Service will be held at 7:45PM. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30AM on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church, 955 Main Street, Zanesville, with Fr. Martin Ralko officiating.
